Caring to be the Best!

Turkey Trot Fundraiser

You may wonder why a non-profit day care center would do a fundraiser for the local food pantry?

The answer is simple, we feel it is vitally important for children to understand that everyone is part of the community and can help—no matter how small or large he or she is.

The Hartford Food Pantry normally serves 150—160 area families each month.  During the fall and winter months, the need for food increases.  Last year, the food pantry purchased over 170 vouchers for turkeys during November.  Most families were able to get a 20 lb turkey for their meal (and hopefully some great leftover meals as well)!

How it works:  each child is given a pledge sheet.  For each $10 pledge, he or she earns a feather with their name on it to ‘dress’ our turkey.  The children then ‘trot’ around the neighborhood.  Our Turkey Trot ends at lunch time when we join our parents, grandparents or special persons for a great lunch of turkey, gravy, potatoes, vegetables and desserts—which of course is “gobbled” up.  Yummy!

Since we began in 2006, the children have raised a lot of money for needy families —over $4000 since 2006.

Please consider helping our local food pantry today!

This year’s Turkey Trot will be coming up soon.

Please pledge a ‘gobbler’ today!
